First and foremost, make sure your water bottle is filled! It is always important to start with a full water bottle. Nearly every day I see gym goers go their entire gym session without a single water break. This is silly. This is against intuition, right?

In the gym you’re sweating, you’re losing water. When you lose water you begin to dehydrate. When you dehydrate you can get muscle cramps. Muscle cramps can impede your workout.

Now that that’s squared away let’s get the gym session going. I like to start out with active and passive stretching. I post-up in the stretching area and stretch every body part each day using the basics that I learned in sixth grade gym class. Then I’ll do some more active stretches using a 3lb weight for added resistance. I like this way. But the other good way is to do some cardio and get the heart rate going. This is equally good, but you should go stretch afterwards before you start to lift weights.

A good stretching session should take about 10 minutes.

When you are feeling good and loose head on over to the weight section for a warm-up.
