The Right Place to Buy

It seems like there are a million different ways to go about buying protein. The original old school way was to go to a GNC or Vitamin Shop. However, if you don’t want an unqualified salesperson talking you into buying every supplement under the sun head to the internet. I’ve tried buying protein from various online companies with varying success.

I quickly grew tired of buying my protein from GNC or Vitamin Shop because I not only had a better physique than 80 percent of their employees but I was also more qualified than 100 percent of their employees. So I took the power into my own hands and started using the internet. Initially, I turned to the online version of these stores. This ended up being just as expensive as going to the store unless they were offering an online sale—which was far and few between.

As time went on more companies got into the game. Amazon is a pretty solid resource. The price is relatively fair but skewed towards the more expensive end. I personally don’t like Amazon because it offers too big of a selection. It’s so easy to get bogged down because each company offers ten different types of the same protein with different descriptions on each of the products.

I have been using a website called MyProtein for the last four years or so. This company has a limited variety of protein, but they also sell other workout supplements and clothing. I like this company for many reasons and I’ll let you in on a few.

1) Quality: Protein and supplement products alike are not regulated by the FDA. So theoretically you never know what is actually in your supplement—you’re just taking their word that it is all that it is. There are companies, however, that rate and rank products based on purity, quality, and safety of supplements. One, for example, is a company called Labrador (https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein). Labrador ranks MyProtein number two for overall quality (nearly tied for number 1). This trumps many of the other big name protein companies. I recommend seeing the complete list of rankings before buying any other protein.

2) Limited Protein Selection: They sell Dairy, Vegan, and Non-Dairy types of protein. I will say that they do have a handful of different types of “blends,” but they are different. Some have more calories and fat for a little extra mass, and some are mixed with carbohydrates from extra energy support. Most websites make it easy to get lost in the sea of options but MyProtein can be a quick shopping experience!

3) Variety of Flavors: Each of their protein products must have at least 20 different flavor options. From unflavored to snickerdoodle they have them all. Of course I stick to my plain old Smooth Chocolate.

4) Sales: They are always running a promotion of some sort. Last week I bought my 5.5 pound bag of protein for 40% off and as I am writing this entry they have up to 60% off plus an additional 10%. I have found this to be the most affordable supplement company on the market. And if you’re worried about shipping, don’t. They offer free shipping for purchases over $49.99.

With all this in mind I hope that you can make an informed decision on what type of protein to buy and where.
